Health Services Management B.S.

Students must adhere to the requirements for the general education and liberal arts and science requirements in the year that they were admitted. The following are requirements for the Health Services Management major, some of which may be satisfied by courses taken as part of the general education and liberal arts and science requirements. The student must take at least one course in accounting, one course in statistics (can be taken in any department) and one course in economics (microeconomics, macroeconomics, or other with departmental approval) prior to beginning the 300-level or higher HSM major courses.

Good Academic Standing

To be in good academic standing for the HSM program, students must:

  1. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.50.1

Students who are in an early assurance track for a graduate health progression program must also meet the academic standing requirements specific to those early assurance program tracks. Please see your specific early assurance program for more detail.

Academic Probation

Students who are not in good academic standing will be placed on academic probation for their next (non-summer) semester. Students on academic probation will be limited to 13 credit hours during the semester they are on academic probation. Students will be removed from probation if they meet the requirements for good academic standing listed above. Students can remain on academic probation for two consecutive, non-summer, semesters.

Dismissal

Students will be dismissed from the HSM program if they:

  1. Fail to remain in good academic standing after having been on academic probation in the HSM program during the immediate two preceding consecutive, non-summer, semesters.

Graduation Requirements

Students will be eligible for a baccalaureate degree in HSM from the HSM program if they:

  1. Fulfill all college and major curriculum requirements;
  2. Earn a cumulative GPA of 2.5; and
  3. Earn a minimum of a C in HAPH 472 Capstone, HAPH 473 Seminar, and HAPH 420 Internship.

Appeals

To appeal a decision rendered by the School of Health Professions faculty/administration that has academic consequences, you must follow the appeal procedures which are available at www.dyc.edu/appeals.

Applicants must meet these criteria for entrance into the Health Services Management BS program. If you applying for early assurance to a clinical program, please refer to the requirements for that program as they may be different from the stand-along BS program.

  1. High school average of at least 80
  2. Transfer students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50
  3. Students must take and achieve a C or better in the program pre-requisite courses of Accounting (Principles of Accounting I (ACC-211) or higher), Economics (Macroeconomics (ECO-201)/Microeconomics (ECO-202) or higher), and Statistics (Statistical Reasoning for Healthcare Professionals (MAT-120) or higher) prior to beginning upper-level major coursework (defined as a HSM 300 level course or higher).
