Executive Leadership (EXL)

EXL-761  Systems Thinking  (3 credits)  

This course introduces the concept of systems thinking, such as mental models, system maps, system archetypes, and dynamic systems for making better decisions and producing long-lasting solutions for complex problems, and provides tools for system thinkers to strengthen leadership skills.

EXL-762  Complexity Theory  (3 credits)  

This course introduces the concept of complexity theory to differentiate between complicated and complex problems, apply complexity science to solve problems, and deepen understanding of how properly managing complexity influences and strengthens leadership capability.

Prerequisite(s): Take EXL-761

EXL-763  Crisis & Disruption Management  (3 credits)  

This course provides a crisis management process and applies critical thinking capabilities to prevent, prepare, and respond to crises and post-crisis follow-up. The course will study the crisis management framework to handle organizational crises effectively and strategically in management roles.

EXL-764  Innovation & Entrepreneurship  (3 credits)  

This course introduces the concepts of innovation and entrepreneurship, such as entrepreneurial logistics, social good, innovative opportunity, technology, and mission-anchored approach, and deepens understanding of how they influence and strengthen leadership opportunities and capability.

Prerequisite(s): Take EXL-763

EXL-768  Leadership Internship 1  (3 credits)  

Leadership Internship 1 is a year-long internship program established through community-based leadership programs after completing foundational theme courses. Students must apply and complete a community-based leadership program at a program director-approved site. Additional fees may apply based on internship placements.

EXL-769  Leadership Internship 2  (3 credits)  

Leadership Internship 2 is a short-term immersive internship program that includes shadowing an executive leader after completing foundational theme courses. The internship comprises a minimum of 45 hours or more of shadowing experience performed within six weeks at an EXL program director-approved site.
