Spanish B.S.
As the official language of 20 countries around the world, a foundation in Spanish opens the doors to a wealth of opportunities at home and abroad. Students in the 4-year Spanish BS program will learn about Hispanic communities of the world through coursework, internship experiences, and service opportunities. Spanish is a global language that extends to a diverse set of cultures and countries, and students in the program will be fully-immersed in the various varieties of Spanish spoken around the world. Students will gain a deep knowledge of the language, history, culture, and literature of the Spanish-speaking world as they learn about the values, customs, and beliefs that frame the various rich and dynamic Hispanic cultures.
Dual Major
At 35 credit hours, the Spanish Bachelor of Science degree is designed for undergraduates interested in a double major with existing health and science bachelor degrees. Drawing from courses in the existing Spanish Bachelor of Art degree, this program allows individuals to gain fluency in Spanish, develop knowledge of linguistic intricacies and nuances of the Spanish language and its different forms worldwide, and to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability gained throughout their program through experiential learning and internship opportunities with partner organizations in the neighboring community. The BS in Spanish allows students to individualize their course of study to focus their degree outcomes towards specific professional goals or intended graduate studies. This program builds upon the College's long standing history of preparing students for the interdisciplinary world by providing them with the opportunity to combine humanities-based language major with one of the health professions. Upon completion of the degree, students can expect to enter the workforce with fluency in Spanish, a growing need in several professions as the multilingual economies demand a multilingual force.
