Students must maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or above for all program courses. A student who has less than a 3.0 cumulative G.P.A at any time is placed on academic probation for one semester. At the end of the probation semester, the student’s file is reviewed by the graduate program coordinator. If the student’s cumulative G.P.A. is a minimum of 3.0, the student is automatically removed from probation. If the student does not achieve a 3.0 G.P.A., the graduate program coordinator will either dismiss the student from the program immediately or continue the student on probation for one more semester. If a minimum of 3.0 is not achieved following the second semester of probation dismissal is automatic.

Students in this program must pass all classes with a grade of C or better, with only two of these classes below a B. A student who receives less than a C or fails a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory course must repeat the course unless they have been dismissed. Courses may be repeated one time only. A G.P.A. of 3.0 is required at the time of graduation. Each student must successfully complete and submit a capstone project report.

Students entering the program as graduate students must meet the following criteria:
- Two letters of recommendation
- A letter of intention
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Students must have minimum grades in the following pre-requisite courses of "C" if completed at a 4-year institution or "B" if completed at a 2-year institution:
--Introduction to Biology I & II with laboratory instruction or Anatomy and Physiology I & II with laboratory instruction.
--General Chemistry I & II with included laboratory instruction.
--Organic Chemistry I with included laboratory instruction.
--Organic Chemistry II or Biochemistry I with included laboratory¹ instruction.
--Genetics or a Biology course with substantial amounts of Molecular Biology and Genetics content with laboratory¹ instruction.
--Introduction to English I & II
